Well, since no one else is going to bring this up, I’ll do it.

There’s an article out on NYDailynews.com, that slightly announces his departure from ‘Today in New York.’

Meanwhile, Michael Gargiulo (above), who filled in for recently departed Rob Morrison on Ch. 4’s morning newscast, is expected to get the job permanently.

If it is true, I think he deserves more than a side note in an article.

His Bio is still up on WNBC.com, but even so, Lynda Baquero’s bio still says she anchors 6pm. I’ll keep you updated.

Update: Apparently, while Michael Gargulio was ’subbing’ on Thursday, he mentioned that Rob was in fact vacationing. Only time will tell.

[Hand Shake to reader Michael]

It’s been confrimed that WNBC’s former ‘New 4 You’ anchor, Perri Peltz, has left the station for longer and greener pastures. Emphasis on longer.

She’s leaving to attend medical school, a venture that takes many years to finish.

“I had a wonderful experience at WNBC, but medical school has been a lifelong dream,” Peltz said Monday in an e-mail message.

Just so you know, I happened to catch this morning’s newscast with Darlene and Michael, and I heard Michael say with my own ears that he was in “for the vacationing Rob Morrison”. I suppose only time will tell for sure, but I hope he does return. I have nothing against Michael, but I happen to like Rob and Darlene together in the morning. Then again, even though I am a devoted Sue Simmons and chuck Scarborough fan (have been since the beginning!), I also thought Lynda Baquero was a fine anchor as well, so, what do I know? :)

I too am a fan of the Darlene/Rob morning combination. And I think Rob shows a terrific sense of humor.

Unfortunately, this morning, Michael Gargiulo did not refer at all to “the vacationing Rob” when identifying himself. Yet Rob is is still on the wbnc website as co-anchor. Go figure.

Rob is no longer listed on WNBC’s website as of 6:50 PM tonight!!!

I called WNBC and was told by whomever answered the phone that Rob Morrison is no longer there.

I do not like Michael G

    Damn, Sharon, that sucks :(

Yet his bio is still up there. Wonder if maybe there have been contract negotiations ongoing, and ultimately they couldn’t reach agreement.

In any case, I don’t think MG is a great fit with Darlene. Oh, well.

It must be true that Rob is gone. I wish they would just admit it and wish him well. I did enjoy watching him in the AM and might switch to a different station.

I am such a fan of Rob Morrison and I think that Darlene and Rob make such a great pair along with Chris and Ottis. This is such a shame. I must say that Michael is a good fit for this group. Rob – good luck to you. You are such a fabulous anchor, reporter and you seem like a very nice person.

I am so upset that Rob is gone. I think of Rob, Darlene, Chris and Otis as my “morning, get ready to go to work friends”. Rob is so funny, and he and Darlene were a great fit. The powers at WNBC need a head check. Many viewers are defecting. Rob, I wish you well!

i can’t believe rob is really gone. at first, i thought he was on an extended memorial day vacation. then i tuned in this week, as i do every week, and still didn’t see him. come on, are they kidding? rob, where are you? i need you in the a.m. wherever you are, i wish you the BEST! you’ll be sorely missed. are you going to another station? i’ll follow you.

This is terrible. I’ve been wondering where Rob’s been, so finally today I started searching the web. I do not like they guy they have on in the mornings now. Time to find a new morning news show…

I do not like Mike G. He does not have what it takes to be a morning host. He is, at best, features reporter quality. The more I see him the less I like him. Rob M. was cool under pressure and kept Darlene from going off on her “I’m a mom, that’s why” tangents. When Darlene put her proverbial hand on her hip, Rob knocked it off. Mike G. is too weak to do that. Look for Darlene to become really annoying without Rob to keep her in check. If Rob does not come back I will switch to CBS.

And shame on NBC for not providing answers as to where Rob went.

When I saw that Rob wasn’t on today, I realized that I may need to come to terms with the fact that he wasn’t beginning the third week of his “vacation”. He will be sorely missed. I hoping to see him pop up on another network in a more well deserved, coveted anchor position. If WNBC is trying to increase their ratings, I don’t get this move.

    09 Jun 08 2:23 PM

Rob, Darleen, Chris and Otis are the best. Watched them every AM. Sorry but Michael G. doesn’t work for me. Will be switching to another network.
NBC really messed this up and to not even acknowledge that Rob was leaving is quite shabby. GE is paying big bucks to some cheap screwups.

  18. Marina
    09 Jun 08 2:45 PM

Michael G doesn’t hold a candle to Rob Morrison. I had also heard the vacation bit last week, but with today being the third week, I checked online only to find out that Rob is indeed gone. Huge mistake by NBC. I am switching to CBS.

  19. Tina

Huge mistake letting Rob go!! Mike G is good, but not that good! Darlene, Rob, Chris and Otis are the ‘Fantastic Four’!! Bring Rob back!!!

  20. Karen
    10 Jun 08 6:09 AM

It just isn’t the same. Darlene and Rob had such great chemistry. As Tina mentioned, “The Fantastic Four”, well I loved them. I always looked forward to watching them in the morning.
I give credit to Michael having to put up with the negative critisum. I am a loyal channel 4 viewer when it comes to the news. I been watching (and loving)Sue and Chuck for years, so I will give Michael a chance, although it would be the same. I MISS YOU ROB!!!!

    10 Jun 08 10:04 AM

What a huge loss. I loved watching that show while getting ready for work each morning. Rob had such chemistry with Darlene, Chris, and especially Otis. They made rising at the crack of dawn palatable. No more. This combo just doesn’t do it. Shame on NBC.

  23. Sue
    10 Jun 08 10:31 AM

What a shame. I always looked forward to my mornings with the fantastic four. Rob and Darlene’s chemistry was just right for my morning. I also have always watched Channel 4 for my news but I am so upset with how this was handled that I am seriously considering switching to CBS. I hope Rob does well somewhere else where they appreciate him. BAD CHOICE NBC – you should have taken away one of the upper execs who really seem to have no sense of what the public really wants.

I was so sad to hear about Rob leaving. There was such great chemistry between him and darlene. He is so real.
I do not like michael G. at all. Big mistake by NBC. From the comments I’ve been reading…they may loose many viewers.

    10 Jun 08 4:13 PM

What’s going to happen to the St Paddy’s day parade now that Rob is gone. He was great at interviewing the guests at the parade site and was complemented by all those he talked to. One way NBC can save money is to cut the 9:00am to 10:00am hour of the ‘Today Show’-it is awful.

WNBC shows a lack of respect for its viewers. This morning Once again WNBC pretends all is business as usual. The truth will emerge. Shame on you. They recently did such a wonderful send off for Tricia. Whatever the circumstances of his departure, we viewers deserve an explanation.

  29. Steve
    11 Jun 08 8:15 AM

AM treadmill time won’t be the same. Perhaps WNBC & Rob are still negotiating. If not, best of luck, Rob. You’re a super anchor and you will be missed.

It’s not the same without the “FOUR”. I’m switching to ABC. Rob, I wish you the best!

  31. David
    11 Jun 08 11:13 AM

The amount of great talent that has left NBC certainly says something about the company and environment at NBC. Rob is excellent. The show is not the same and really gives cause for viewers to look elsewhere.

  32. Speziak
    11 Jun 08 5:38 PM

Just change the channel, lower their ratings, show them that they might have saved a few bucks on Rob’s contract but it’s going to cost the dearly as a result. That’s all the viewer can do.

Rob has a bright future, my thoughts go out to all the others on that team that need a job so badly they can’t just slam the door in the news division’s face and walk to greener pastures.

Let’s face it, TV news journalism is dead. It died with the advent of cable and continues to get worse and worse. Our flagship stations were really the last bastion and now they too are pretty much gone.

Take care Rob, you and Darlene were a perfect fit as a team. I respect Darlene for her bravery, going out there every day, smiling as if all is right with the world, and moving the show forward.

TV news, let’s continue to mourn the death of the medium.

  33. lbh
    11 Jun 08 7:07 PM

I miss Rob, the team was terrific in the morning. I also wonder what happens to coverage of St Pats parade.
I don’t dislike Mike G, never did. Hope it works out for him but this is a loss to NY morning news.

  34. Hi all,

I too agree that Darlene, Rob, Otis and Chris (and earlier Trish) were the best anchor team on television in New York City. Rob is able to segue into anything, is witty, great at repartee, able to be generous and engage with the rest of the team, help lift moods, etc.

I am bummed out about Rob’s leaving and don’t think Mike G. can do at all what Rob does. Mike G. reads news. That’s about it.

I have stayed up all night for years just to watch the “fabulous four” (previously “fabulous five” with Trish) which made my day/night. I always looked forward to watching/listening to them.

I don’t know what to do now. I don’t think I’ll watch the early news any more at all.

And I agree–get rid of a few CEO’s who probably aren’t needed anyway, but keep the anchors whom the public watches.

It’s such a counterproductive move to cut costs with no regard for the anchors or the public. But then what corporation cares about the human factor?

How do we know it was WNBCs fault. Rob might have made huge demands or have gotten a better offer @ another network. He was one cool dude though. Well probably see him on prime time network sooner or later.

  36. Sad
    12 Jun 08 6:00 AM

The Fab Four, especially Rob and Darlene have been my sole reason for getting up in the AM. I even dreaded turning on the news when one of them were on vacation. Rob, best of luck to you. Hope to see you on one of the other news stations soon since I won’t be watching WNBC any longer.

  37. Andrea
    12 Jun 08 7:42 AM

Really sad to see Rob go – why don’t they ever tell you? At least with Trish we could all participate in her moving on. It is so disconcerting….I was sorry when Jane and Maurice were broken up, and when the sports anchor before Otis left without a word, and when Joe Avelar was let go…I suppose we’ll all move on but it’s a blow to my morning routine. Heaven forbid if they decide to get rid of Chris!

What a BIG mistake letting Rob go. Michael G. is just ‘weird’ looking. He looks like a court jester or something, with that huge mouth! Bring Rob back…he had class, good looks, sense of humor – everything. Looks like I’ll be changing the channel to whatever channel Rob is going to.

  40. david sager
    13 Jun 08 6:31 AM

r rob is a marine who did the job with class.he had an on camera expertise when delivering the news and always showed humor with respect for the other news team members. I hope he returns real soon !!!!

    13 Jun 08 6:40 AM

I kept hoping that Rob was taking a “really long vacation”, but decided this morning to check the internet. I am very sorry Rob is gone. Although I wasn’t a big fan initially, I grew to like him (I watch every morning from 5 to 5:30 AM. Although Michael seems OK, I really find him kind of phony and he doesn’t seem to fit. I have been watching only channel 4 News (AM and PM) for many years, but I might need to switch. If my day can’t begin with some enjoyment, that’s not good. If it weren’t for Chris Cimino (who I enjoy immensely), my search for new morning info might begin. I’ll hang out for a while longer to see if my opinion may change.

  42. Linda Brochhausen
    13 Jun 08 7:54 AM

I watched the news on NBC in the morning because of Rob and Darlene. I am very upset that this cost cutting move was done without the consensus of the fans. The news is just not the same. Shame on NBC. Rob, let us all know where you will be!!!!

  43. Debbie
    14 Jun 08 7:34 AM

I am very upset that Rob is no longer anchoring with Darlene. They were perfect together, along with Chris and Otis. NBC has made a big mistake. I don’t think that Mike G. will ever be as good, and I may stop watching the show. It just doesn’t have the same feel to it. I am sure NBC will lose many people tuning in from 5 am through 7am. Bad decision!!!

  44. Carol
    16 Jun 08 2:27 PM

I am very upset that Rob is gone and no one from NBC has said anything. This new anchormen Mike does not do it for me. I will switch to another am network for sure.

  45. AJ
    17 Jun 08 4:23 AM

Yeah, I have to agree with everyone it sucks that Rob is gone. He was a lot better then that other guy Maurice DuBois ( remember that phony), This new guy Mike is like when a school principle come into the class room and kills the fun out of the environment. Not a good fit for the morning. Side note this new girl filling in for Darlene is cute.

  46. mike
    17 Jun 08 5:35 AM

Its always annoying when they change anchors. I actually liked Maurice when he was doing mornings on NBC, although Jane Hansen was brutal. Its a shame they have to shake things up every few years.

  47. James P Crumlish
    17 Jun 08 7:42 AM

Rob Morrison had charm, wit, intelligence and presence. He possessed that rare combination of gravitas and humor that made a viewer sit back and pay attention to the NEWS that was being delivered.

Replacing this truly outstanding professional with a cold, dispassionate, humorless and personality challenged “news reader” is a profound disservice to all New Yorkers.

  48. Diane
    17 Jun 08 8:23 AM

My husband and I have been avid NBC early morning news watchers for years. We loved the Rob/Darlene/Chris and Otis combination. We are very sad that Rob is gone. I realized this Monday morning as well that Rob was starting his 3rd week of vacation. Also, Mike G. never said he was filling in….First Trish left to pursue her new endeavors..understandable…but cost cutting and not renewing Rob’s contract…NOT ACCEPTABLE..pls NBC bring him back!!!

  49. Dawn H
    17 Jun 08 8:35 AM

We miss Rob and Darlene combo along with Otis and Chris. Great morning show team. We enjoyed that team better than the today show team most times. Where did Rob go we will watch him there. Michael G doesn’t have the spark, humor and down to earth feeling that Rob brought to the show. He is great.

  50. Carolyn
    17 Jun 08 10:59 AM

Just got back from Spain and wondering where Rob Morrison is. MG just introduces himself without saying “for the vacationing Rob Morrison” What a disappointment. You can tell from everyone’s responses above that people were noticing his absence and decided to Google him, as I did. How can this be? What a great team he and Darlene are. I may switch to Channel 2 for a change in scenery but if Rob is back I will be also.

  51. Nay
    17 Jun 08 1:57 PM

    Sidenote…what’s with the traffice girl?
I find her annoying and a waste of money.
Why hire someone new? How hard is it to read the traffic report, just give it to the anchor or stick with the set-up after Trish left and keep Rob.

  52. Patricia
    17 Jun 08 1:57 PM

Not to tell viewers the truth is indicative of how the station views its customers. We have to respond by watching another channel. Of course CBS would be the place to go since Maurice is there. I will miss Chris Cimino and Otis Livingston – they are both smart and funny – Darlene is fluff – too much Mom and not enough news. I’m gone. WNBC, you should be ashamed of yourself to give us first the vacation line and then no acknowledgement that anything has changed. BTW, Michael G has been growing on me – he has a sense of humor, but it’s not really about that, is it?

  53. Chris
    17 Jun 08 3:17 PM

First it was Maurice DuBois, and now Rob Morrison. If Rob doesn’t return, the Today Show lost me as a viewer.

  54. Mary Seitz
    17 Jun 08 3:46 PM

Rob Morrison is a wonderful co-anchor – He’s articulate, interesting and has a great sense of humor. It is a shame he’s no longer on with Darlene Rodriguez – I think Michael Gargiulo is a nice guy but he has absolutely no personality on the air. I’ll be watching Maurice DuBois once again on Channel 2. You folks at Channel 4 made another huge mistake by letting Rob Morrison go – guess you never bother to watch your own broadcasts to see how your co-anchors come across….shame on you.

  55. Heidi
    17 Jun 08 4:06 PM

I am very upset about the lack of honesty regarding Rob Morrison and the 5-7 am newscast. I have been a fan of the Darlene/Rob combo for a long time. Shame on NBC!!! Good luck to Rob if he is indeed gone. I am searching for another newsprogram… and I know I am not alone in this!

  56. Jaycee
    17 Jun 08 4:35 PM

It’s all been said, but I echo the above sentiments. I was ready to see Rob replace Matt Lauer (who has gotten quite cocky and long in the tooth). Good-bye NBC. Bad move and handling it even worse.

  57. Kelly Ann V
    17 Jun 08 5:48 PM

Rob’s leaving NBC News could not have been amicable. Just look at the send off they gave Trish Yodice a few months back. Watching the news will not be the same. I will truly miss the combination of Rob, Chis, Darlene and Otis. They had such great chemistry.

  60. cynthia
    18 Jun 08 8:20 AM

Unlike most of you I am not a fan of Darlene Rodriguez. She talks too much, she laughs too much and I am frankly tired of her snickering and sneering when she feels her co-anchor does or says something she may perceive as “dumb”. Didn’t think Rob had a chance with her. NBC should have acknowledged Rob’s departure.

  61. Laura
    18 Jun 08 10:48 AM

Sad to hear about Rob’s departure on the web rather than NBC. I see where the Mets are getting their cues from. Might NBC want to wish him well and acknowledge that the new talking head has replaced him? This Erica person filling in for Darlene is annoying as well. She is trying way too hard. I too will switch stations. It’s only a matter of time before Chris takes over on the Today Show and Otis leaves for a better time slot!

I am so upset that Rob is no longer at WNBC. That is a gigantic mistake. The chemistry between the 4 of them (the O-Man, Darlene and Chris) is extremely rare. Rob’s quirky sense of humor ALWAYS made me laugh outloud while I did my push-ups in the morning. Are they insane? AND they are (”were”..shortly) the #1 morning news program!! What are they smoking upstairs in that ivory tower?? I am changing channels.

I too am so upset with wnbc Darlene, Rob, Chris and Otis were a great team. Everytime nbc gets something right they blow it… I don’t enjoy watching the morning show anymore and will now exercise to a new station. They gave the news and were an entertaining group. The four of them were naturals. What nbc have on now are dull anchors. They lost a viewer. I hope we can find Rob again. Rob good luck where ever you are.. Miss the Team.

    20 Jun 08 6:22 AM

We are so upset that Rob is gone from the 5-7 Today in NY show, and apparently Darlene too. We have watched for years and loved Rob, Darlene, Chris and Otis. Rob & Darlene were by far the best morning news team-almost flawless in my opinion. What a sad mistake. I am so sick of the innane corporate decision-making that ignores creative needs, discounts or miscontrues customer feedback, and focuses solely on data that it fails to fully understand. Michael G and the new girl are mediocre and annoying. (And I agree with others – I hate Carolyn Gussoff!) NBC was the best by far and it was because of Rob and Darlene. But now I just can’t watch anymore. Sooo dissappointed.

  69. Judy
    20 Jun 08 7:40 AM

Just let us know where Rob is. He was a excellant reporter on the show. I like Chris, Otis and Darlene, but without Rob it’s not the same. Goodby NBC morning news. You owe your fans and supporters of NBC to give us the information we request. Micheael G. dosn’t fit.

wow, Rob is really gone from the today shoe. While I like Darlene, Otis and Chris, Rob was the one I liked to most. He was so well polished, a real joy to watch. Whereever he surfaces is where I will be.

    20 Jun 08 9:41 AM

The Today Show has been on in my home every morning since I was a little kid — I’m now 44 and have seen many a team come and go –but I’m so sick that Rob is gone and without a word. Poor taste, bad taste, no taste, NBC.

  73. Michael
    21 Jun 08 8:54 AM

    Suzanne,

Sue Simmons has been on vacation this week, and Darlene has been filling in for her broadcasts. As far as I know, when Sue returns, Darlene will return to mornings.

But yeah, it still sucks that Rob is gone. I’ve been watching Today in New York for years, certainly when Maurice and Jane were the anchors, and unlike some of you, I liked them both fine. I actually felt badly when Maurice went to CBS because he was tired of doing mornings (at least that’s what he hinted at the time), and after a little while in afternoons and evenings, well, we all know he ended up on mornings again.

Only good thing to come out of it is another decent newscast to watch. Since I’m a diehard NBC News fan, it bothers me to switch, but maybe WNBC doesn’t care about me as much as I care about them. Oh. well. ::shrug::

What a major mistake. Mornings have not been the same without Rob as my morning news man. I agree with all the comments regarding the Rob-Darlene-Chris-Otis combination: it was a chemistry that can’t be found anywhere else. That Michael G drives me crazy – he needs to work on his “L” pronunciations and there is no chemistry between the other personalities and him. Yikes…my mornings are really off to a rough start now! So sorry to see Rob go!

  77. Arlene
    23 Jun 08 8:39 AM

A loyal watcher of NBC morning news since the days of Jane and Mary….Maurice and yes…..even Matt and now I’m finished! I don’t want to bash the others; however, I’ve never seen a morning news team as enjoyable to watch as Rob, Darlene, Chris and Otis. I know things don’t always stay the same. I thought we would lose Rob or Chris to The Today Show, but to have Rob leave because of $$$…what a bad decision. When Trish left to pursue another career … it hurt, but you know….understandable. I felt sad to see her go, but at least she received a proper send off! I enjoyed hearing about “Brownie” and watching “Armando” pointing at the screen above his head, while getting ready in the morning. The days of Rob, Chris and Otis talking about their rival sports teams are gone….and so am I. I’ll be searching for Rob….hopefully another network will be reading these blogs.

I’m echoing all the previous comments about Rob and the rest of the Today in NY cast. It’s a shame he’s gone. It’s certainly not going to help WNBC which is falling fast in ratings, likeability and objectivity.

    23 Jun 08 1:03 PM

Time to switch to channel 7. Chris and Otis are still the best but that traffic woman is an annoying pushy disaster. Somebody better get her back in the traffic room where she belongs. What ever happened to simple reporting as was done by Trish and Adrian. The fill in Tom Zweier was much better.

Where did Rob go? He kept me happy on my morning stationary bike ride. I will miss him!

    23 Jun 08 4:53 PM

Bring back Rob. There is no chemistry between Michael G and Darlene, and he seems boring. I switched to CBS and Maurice & Kate are great together, and will be my new morning news source. I will keep checking this site and my eyes open to see where Rob lands.

    23 Jun 08 6:37 PM

Bring Rob back. I’m still waiting to find out what happened. One day Rob is on vacation with Micheal G filling in. No send off no nothing. Shame on you NBC. I liked Darlen and Rob. Gargiulo is dry.

    24 Jun 08 5:24 AM

What a mistake if Rob is gone. No chemistry between Michael G and Darlene. Guess I need to find a new channel. WNBC, if you are at all smart, you will bring back Rob.

    24 Jun 08 10:06 AM

I agree with what everyone here has said about Today in New York’s team. I usually Tivo the show, so I don’t miss any of their witty comments, but I can’t watch it anymore. Michael G, though professional and I am sure a lovely person, is too stiff. Rob was the best, because he didn’t just read from the prompter. He showed some emotion about what he was reading. On another topic, the new traffic reporter is unwatchable. What’s wrong with Tom Zweier, not pretty enough for the NBC brass? He was so much better. Needless to say, it’s off my Tivo. I’ll miss Chris, Darlene and Otis, but it’s not the same without Rob.

  85. Lori
    24 Jun 08 12:41 PM

We’re only advised that Michael G is filling in for Rob. No send off-goodbyes, etc. Bring Rob back-no chemistry between Darlene and Michael. Switched to NBC from CBS since Maurice irritates me. Michael has that kind of effect on me as well. Will be watching Morning Joe on MSNBC instead.

  86. Michael
    24 Jun 08 1:32 PM

Well, it’s official — Kaheem posted early this morning about a final blog Rob wrote several days ago that none of us found. OK, honestly, I didn’t look for it, but I didn’t find it nonetheless :)

Michael G. is OK as an anchor, but I really think he is more suited for an evening broadcast. As so many others have said, there’s no real chemistry between he and Darlene.

I’d still love for Rob to come back, but that’s not going to happen. :( At least now we know, though.

Hopefully he will turn up on the public airwaves again. I wonder if he’s managed to find this place and see how well loved he is. I guess we will never know.

    ::sigh::

What a sham!! I have not and will not watch the 5-7 AM news without Rob. MG is wooden and not acceptable! To not give information about Rob’s leave is NOT acceptable. GOODBYE NBC!

    25 Jun 08 5:57 AM

I’m glad Rob Morrison is gone. I always thought he was pompous and smarmy. But the worst thing was his open love of Boston sports teams. He was too “in your face” in that respect.

Can’t believe Rob is gone. Is Darlene next?
They really went well together and I enjoyed
them so much. Whatever you do don’t get rid
of Chris Cimino..only person I have ever trusted
with the weather…and so so handsome.

    26 Jun 08 4:45 AM

I think it is horrible how NBC did not even mention that Rob was leaving. He, along with Darlene, Otis, and Chris had great chemistry. They used to make me laugh quite often as well. No offense to Mike, but I am not a fan of him. I think he is too “goofy” and not worthy of the top spot in the morning. Every morning I looked for Rob thinking “today he will be back.” I finally looked online today, and am disgusted with what NBC did, and upset they did not even let us know. This is an insult to their viewers, and I too will look for another news station and try to avoid NBC altogether.

  91. Andie
    26 Jun 08 5:45 AM

For several weeks, my husband and I have been wondering what happened to Rob. We thought perhaps we missed the a.m news one day and missed an announcement. Finally, we turned to a Google search. This is horrible. They gave him a buyout, but where is Rob?? Gargulo might work well in some small, midwest media market, but he just does not cut it on Today in New York. Also not so happy with Trish Yodice’s replacement, Meaghan Something or Other.
Indeed, the time may have come to look for another morning news program. As I do not care for Meredith Viera, and I think Matt Lauer has gotten too jaded, may need to switch to another network for the whole morning routine!

  92. Andie
    26 Jun 08 5:46 AM

Forgot to mention!: We hope Rob lands on his feet and we see him back on NY airwaves soon!

  93. Nickie
    26 Jun 08 4:56 PM

The morning show is not the same without Rob. How can you let someone go like that and not even mention it on the air? I do not look forward to the show the way I used to. Shame on you NBC.

    27 Jun 08 6:19 PM

I miss the Rob and Darlene combo! Mornings are just not the same, and I’d probably switch my wake-up station if I didn’t like the Today Show. Chan 4 should get rid of Carolyn Gussoff…her voice actually hurts my ears, no kidding! I love Chris, Otis and Darlene, and I’ll miss Rob.

    30 Jun 08 5:51 AM

I have been wondering what happened to Rob Morrison, I can’t believe they didn’t mention him leaving. He was so nice, that really came across. Michael G. is not the same. I have to wonder why NBC didn’t acknowledge him leaving. BIG MISTAKE. The show isn’t the same without him. Their loss.

  97. macie
    30 Jun 08 5:58 AM

I have been wondering what happened to Rob Morrison. I think NBC made a BIG MISTAKE. Why no acknowledgement of his leaving? He was a truely nice man, that really came across. Michael G. is not the same, adequate as a fill-in. If this is how NBC treats their staff, I am not impressed. Also, if I worked there, I would be looking over my shoulder.

  98. Jennifer Slater
    30 Jun 08 4:36 PM

My mornings will not be the same! I always enjoyed hearing the news and the banter between Rob and Darlene (although Darlene could annoy me with her fake smile and constant Mom wisdom). NBC has lost a 20+ year viewer because of this….when Katie Couric left, I couldnt stand Meredith, so I started watching Rob and Darlene, and found I liked them more than Matt and Katie! Now NBC has nothing left to offer….

  99. Bill
    01 Jul 08 9:06 AM

YEA!!!!! It’s about time they got rid of that jerk. I haven’t liked Rob since day one. His jokes were always off color, off point and he was not the right fit for Early Today. I thought they FIRED his behind. Mike G. isn’t the right fit yet either, but may be in time he will get there. As a side note, I am wondering why every other channel and radio news cast has had some blurb about Darlene’s husband’s trial, but NBC has not covered it once?? I thought news is supposed to be un-biased? I realize it could be difficult to cover while Darlene is at the news desk, but what about the 5,6 or 11 news broadcasts???
Just one humble man’s opinion. Good luck NBC, if all these people who posted are true to their word, I hear your ratings dropping, again, like a lead balloon.

  100. Susan Harrington
    01 Jul 08 1:59 PM

Big mistake. Mike G is no Rob Morrison. Rob Morrison was the only New Yorker who could get away with being a Red Sox fan and still be loved. I’m following him to his next show. NBC needs to treat the audience like they had a brain — tell us up front what’s happening – this ‘he’s on vacation’ was/is insulting. Show is falling apart – first Trish Yodice, now Rob. If you are trying to save money, get rid of the fourth hour of TODAY and bring Rob back.

  101. Phyllis
    01 Jul 08 2:59 PM

No more Rob; no more me!!!!!!!
I an now lost as to which channel to watch for my morning news.

  102. Cathy
    01 Jul 08 4:38 PM

Does NBC not know that we feel like these are our friends that we look foward to seeing and starting our morning with? How do they just pretend he went off on vacation…….and never returned?I loved the team they had, Rob, Darlene, Chris and Otis. If you are reading any of these Rob, I truly miss seeing you in the morning even though you are a BOSOX fan. I wish you well, you were a delight!

  103. Lynda
    01 Jul 08 5:39 PM

I was very upset to learn that Rob is no longer alongside Darlene in the morning. They worked well together. I enjoyed him greatly. Does anyone know where he had gone? I would change morning news if I could find him.

  104. Michael
    01 Jul 08 10:36 PM

    Bill,

You’re certainly entitled to your opinion about Rob, but I believe you’re off base with regard to NBC’s reporting of the David Rodriguez case. While you’re correct that Darlene herself has never reported on it, NBC has, during their evening broadcasts, both as the story unfolded and they subsequently broadcast the statement Darlene made on the courthouse steps. I don’t have any documentary evidence of it, but I did see it on WNBC with my own eyes.

For what it’s worth, I did a Google search for David Rodriguez, and out of the first 50 hits, there was ONE (on the first page) that referred to THAT David Rodrigues. It’s a Fox News story. I’d supply the URL but they seem to get eaten here.

    The headline is:

New York Cop, Married to TV Anchor, Accused of Raping Girl, 17
    Wednesday, March 19, 2008

I don’t see anything else by any other news outlet, but perhaps you can find them for me.

And no, I don’t work for NBC or GE, and I’m not even remotely related to Darlene by blood or marriage. Matter of fact, I’ve never met her or any member of her family, just in case anyone is wondering :)

  105. Marilyn Bush
    02 Jul 08 9:16 AM

I miss Rob Morrison and am upset that it was not announced he is gone, if he is gone. If he were just on vaca, it would be mentioned more often. Nothing against Michael, but I want to know what happened to Rob. At least we all knew Trish was leaving. Where oh where is Rob??

  106. Georgette Madak
    02 Jul 08 10:55 PM

Rob was such a class act and we’ll miss him enormously. His comments were both sensitive and humorous. I especially admired Rob’s humane ethics regarding animals. Rob, Darlene, Chris and Otis were a wonderful foursome…I also enjoyed watching them when the technological reporter, Sri something-or-other, joined the group. Hope to find you elsewhere, Rob.

  107. Susan
    06 Jul 08 10:42 PM

NBC showed what kind of organization they are in how they handled letting go of Rob Morrisson — they’re a crappy one. Why have any faith in them if this is how they treat their employees?

  108. Fran
    07 Jul 08 4:10 PM

Just to echo what mostly everyone else has been saying. I am so dissappointed NBC let Rob Morrison go. Total lack of class. Michael Gargiulo is colorless and the team now lacks balance without Rob to keep Darlene from being too perky. The recent replacements for Darlene are incredibly annoying. Guess its time to find another station for the morning news.

  109. Vickie
    08 Jul 08 6:27 PM

I think this week’s pairing of Michael & Erica is fantastic! Erica seems to be genuinely sweet and easy to get along with. Darlene always comes off as a phony. I hope her days are numbered. Whenever Darlene is on, I switch to CNN or The Morning Joe.

  110. Ethan
    09 Jul 08 7:38 AM

It is interesting that this is the same way Maurice Dubois left NBC Today in New York about 8 years ago. Rob took over for the “vacationing” Maurice over the summer, and then suddenly CBS announced Maurice was moving there. I bet we see Rob show up on another network – he has too much talent not to.

  111. Colleen
    09 Jul 08 4:18 PM

I am so not liking the “new” Today in NY broadcast. Rob, Darlene and Chris were always
something to look forward to when having to get up that early. I am now jumping stations.
I believe it was the movie Pretty Woman that made us all really understand the expression
“BIG MISTAKE”! Well guess what NBC……..

  112. Judith
    11 Jul 08 6:17 AM

I did something this morning I have never done before in the AM…I changed the channel to ABC!!! It’s AMATEUR time at NBC…what happened to Rob and Darlene? NBC really missed the boat, the show is not worth watching. Very irritating, high-pitched voice on Erica and Michael G. does not have the “anchor” thing. The traffic girl is awful, just get her a mirror to look into, she seems so preoccupied with her looks. At least put Tracy Strahan (incredibly classy) in Erica’s place. She would add a lot to the show. But the best would be Rob and Darlene!!!

  113. TM
    11 Jul 08 11:53 AM

i miss rob too. anyone know what ever happened to joe moreno?? the weather man from a couple years ago…i still miss him!

  114. sandy
    11 Jul 08 3:20 PM

Big mistake NBC! Rob Morrison has this charisma that nobody can replace. I’ve been watching the morning news every single morning and it’s different now. Rob, Darlene, Chris & Otis – they have a good chemistry together. they’re a family. I always look forward to watching this guys joke around…it just feels good to start the day right. Maybe it’s a blessing in disguise….I know Rob will find a better job somewhere. God takes care of good people like Rob.

  115. Martha
    11 Jul 08 3:38 PM

I keep thinking who is Michael G. and where is Rob? I agree that Rob, Darlene, Chris and Otis make a great team and love their dynamic. I did at times feel like Rob showed a little attitude that was holier than thou, but generally, the good far outweighed the bad and I do miss him.

But…where is Darlene this week? I happen to like Erika (don’t find her voice too squeeky and she has a good personality), but is Darlene really on vacation or….???

    Anyone know?

  116. Denise
    11 Jul 08 8:07 PM

Losing Rob is a big loss for NBC, but losing Chris Cimino would be really devastating. Chris has charm, wit and class. He is very handsome and is always dressed so nicely. I am torn between switching stations because I will miss Chris doing the weather, but not having Rob is lousy. NBC should take a good look at all their TV personalities. There are a few of them that no one would ever miss.

  117. Joanne

You can’t just disapear from the NY airways and no one knows where you are!!!! Rob
Morrison is somewhere!!! Is he on an extended
    self-imposed “vacation”? Studying ? Fishing ?
Anyone that young, talented and good-looking
can’t be hiding under his bed.
    WHERE IS ROB???

  118. Tania
    13 Jul 08 11:19 PM

    14 Jul 08 7:33 AM

I am very disappointed that Rob Morrison is no longer on the morning news program. Don’t know why he is not there – he was the best – now I will have to switch to CBS and watch Maurice who I enjoyed on the NBC morning show. All the best to Rob and his family

  120. Lori
    14 Jul 08 8:13 AM

Rob and Darlene the best morning news team in the morining. NBC made a stupid move.

  121. Diane
    14 Jul 08 9:29 AM

I agree with everyone, Rob will be missed. His chemistry with Darlene worked extremely well. I am sure he will land something better and if NBC thinks I or others will still tune in to their morning show…think again. It was changed a week later upon the realization that Rob was no longer coming back. Good Luck to Michael as he has big shoes to fill, and I don’t think it will happen. He is just too fake and cheer leaderish…And yes the traffice girl stinks…Tom Zweier was so much better at the job…I say…change to another station as it can’t be much worse than NBC is now!

  122. cuddy
    14 Jul 08 10:39 PM

Rob Morrison was a cold robot who feigned having a sense of humor. His glasses made him look like Frankenstein with glasses. He made want to puke everytime he stumbled and stammered to ensure he got in his “and that’s what’s happening today in new york” parting shot. I swear I saw him pout like a big baby everytime someone else got to say the line. Good riddance to Mr. Personality. I’ve got more charm in my crusty pinky-toe.

  123. Lorraine
    15 Jul 08 3:15 PM

WNBC should have let its viewers know that Rob Morrison had left the show. That annoyed me almost as much as the change in anchor. As others have mentioned, Maurice DuBois is at CBS and is a good alternative.

  124. Miasue Evans
    15 Jul 08 6:48 PM

Does not NBC care about it’s viewers? I think that the network should inform it’s viewers when anchors move on, are fired, etc. Like, where is Sue???? I read somewhere that Sue has lost her job? So, does that mean that Darlene will be taking her place permanently? You know, these fine people are doing their job, as best as they can. Whether they are phony or goofy, they bring us the news each day and somehow sharing that cup of coffee in the morning with them or dinner with them at night, they become part of our routines, they become a part of day and we become accustomed to them. They bring us sad news, funny news, ground breaking news and are our connection to the outside world. Geez, I remember rushing home from my after school programs and there was Sue and there was Chuck. Boy, that was ages ago….
So, NBC should understand the ever so small or ever so large impact that occurs when that face that has been there for us, day in and day out is suddenly gone…
You know it’s a sad state of affairs when we know who what underwear Brittany Spears is wearing or not wearing but not when well respected, hard working, daily fixtures in our lives suddenly disappear…poof…just like that…

  125. Matthew Fleisig
    15 Jul 08 8:06 PM

NBC, you blew it. Turning on the television at 5:00 to begin my morning with Rob and Darlene, Otis and Chris was a routine that made getting up that early the only way to start the day. And with Rob there was always a chance of getting a Good Ol’ Grateful Dead quote, soundbit or reference. In the words of Jerry Gracia “Gone are the days…”

  126. Loulou
    19 Jul 08 10:42 PM

Maybe they can get Maurice Deblois back on channel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  127. Nancy
    22 Jul 08 6:32 AM

i cannot believe I am actually writing on this website, but I kept wondering what happen to Rob…I watched him every day and thought he had the right combination of smart, compassion and very professional. Great combination with Darlene who is still on sometimes….I wonder where Rob is?? I would switch my stations to watch him. Anyone know???

  128. Arlene Heiser
    12 Aug 08 9:11 AM

I have been a fan of Rob’s ever since I saw his reporting from Desert Storm. I was thrilled when WNBC picked him up in the morning slot. He made my day. I have been disappointed by NBC a few times. First, they took off Another World (my favorite soap) which shattered me as much as losing Rob. Then, for some reason, NBC decided to air infomercials at 11 AM. What’s with that? I jump immediately over to The View. NBC stinks! I will miss Rob until I find out where he is reporting next.

  129. Pam
    13 Aug 08 5:36 PM

It is disconcerting to turn on the tv in the morning and to have Rob not there…just isn’t right. I agree with all of the comments posted about how much Rob is missed and how badly NBC treated him & us, the viewers, by not giving an explanation of some kind about his absence. On another note, does anyone remember Joe Witte? He was a jovial weatherman, had light brown hair and wore glasses? All of a sudden he disappeared too…but, I could swear he does voiceovers for commercial lead ins for the TODAY SHOW. His voice was very distinctive and it sounds just like him…you never get to see him, but you hear his voice. I tried to google him, but nothing came up. Does anyone have any info about him? He was a really nice guy, too…

  130. Pam
    13 Aug 08 5:42 PM

Update…Joe Witte is the voice of the NBC weather intros, but, works for another tv station in Washington, DC. Wickipedia states that he did work for all the major stations at one time or another and ended his stint at NBC in 2003…why he is still doing the voice intros…who knows? Glad he is still gainfully employed on tv in some capacity.

    16 Aug 08 7:28 AM

Have been a Rob Fan since his days in Hartford.
I have now switched to channel 2. Maurice and Kate
have great chemistry and truly enjoy their chemistry. I hope Rob re surfaces on NY TV
Boy how the suits have botched up channel 4

  132. Joyce Smith
    16 Aug 08 8:48 AM

The Early Today show is falling apart. Darlene and Chris and Otis are doing the best they can to stop it. Michael does not seem to be on the same page as the other 3 and the traffic girl is a whiner. She is always making you feel like they are not including her in the fun. I guess it is back to Maurice again until NBC mends their mistake. They could let Jenna and Tiki go and save money there.

  133. joe Moreno got badly hurt in the stuido while working slipping back on those fat rubber robotic camera cables on the floor. He went unconsious and later sustained major heriation dislocations and nerve damage to his back. He tried to everything by the best ny doctors to get better quickly but the pain everyday took over and the station went on a national hunt to replace him, putting on all different people from all over the country . Joe is a super guy and loves weather and has AMS and degrees (did all sorts of things for them on the shows) he was a nice guy, handsome too.. i;hope he’s way better now. Think he still lives in the neighborhood …at least his family(has a very famous brother) does. He is very knowledgeable. And like Rob, another reason to watch not there anymore, very very sad. Someone should call them and get them back.

  134. CJ
    20 Aug 08 7:23 AM

I thought i was a total loser missing Rob and I am so glad to find I am not alone in finding the morning so disappointing without him! I too will be finding a new station cause that Mike guy just doesn’t do it for me. If anyone knows where Rob has gone I will be happy to follow. Good luck wherever you are- hopefully a national show, you deserve it!

  135. JOE MORENO WAS A LOOKER AND LOVED WEATHER, I STILL MISS HIM. HE SLID BACKWARD OVER THOSE LARGE CAMERA HOSE LIKE WIRES WHILE ON THE AIR. WHAT A SHAME TO FIRE HIM FOR THAT. HE WAS SPECIAL.

    I MISS THAT CUTE FACE.
    WISH HE GOES BACK THERE.

  136. Denise Apostolos
    02 Sep 08 11:09 AM

On missing Rob. What I don’t get how somebody is here one day and gone the next. Wnbc4 never said anything about him leaving. Scary how so many people are losing their jobs these days. I had no idea about Joe Moreno another nice fellow. Just today I thought about Rob and found this site. I too wish him luck he was very smart, I used to love how he always knew where Matt was in (where in the world is Matt?)

    I also miss Rob.
But we should give Michael G a chance!

  138. HoodHoltz
    03 Sep 08 2:38 PM

So first it’s Rob Morrison and now it seems that NBC is makig some sneaky moves again without saying anything! Anyone notice that Otis Livingston is no longer on the 5-7am news! What the heck is going on there? It used to be a great morning program with really good people that seemed to have a great chemistry (Rob, Darlene, Chris and Otis)! Now they got nervous Michael G and that vampire-toothed traffic girl, Megan M – UUGGHHH)!! What are they thinking? Bring back OTIS!

  139. Lynn
    03 Sep 08 6:47 PM

Rob & Darlene made a great team! I am a big fan of the morning show and will miss seeing Rob in the morning. NBC loss will be another networks gain! Best of luck to you Rob!!!

  140. Lynn
    03 Sep 08 6:55 PM

And where has Otis been! It’s too bad, obviously the morning show gets high ratings because fans tuned in to watch this particular team, they could at least give them a nice send off. It is the right thing to do for them and the fans!

  141. Kaheem
    04 Sep 08 4:29 PM

Otis is still around. I caught him during the 5pm Newscast today.

    21 Sep 08 8:33 AM

Letting Rob Morrison go was a big mistake. What an asset he was to WNBC Morning Show. He had great chemistry with Darlene. He not only was good looking, he was good at what he does. What does NBC know. They think all their viewers are Spanish. He was great doing the St Patrick’s Day Parade. I am so sick of NBC news. Thank God for cable. I want to know, Who does Michael Garguilo know?

  143. Crystal
    27 Sep 08 8:29 AM

For months I have been wondering what happened to Rob Morrison. Michael Garguilo is nice and all, but there was truly something special about the the Rob, Darlene, Otis, and Chris combination. It’s been months since Rob’s departure, and we’re all still talking about this. ARE YOU LISTENING NBC?!?!

  144. Nancy Padovano
    02 Oct 08 7:16 PM

I am still looking for Rob Morrison. He was a dynamic part of the channel 4 news team. I have recently found myself channel surfing during the 5 o’clock news to see which network I like better. I keep coming back to News4 because I just love Chris Cimino, a really funny and personable weather guy. Hang in there Chris. Hopefully, they find a replacement for Mike Gargiulo, cause he has absolutley no personality. Gosh, I miss Rob. Huge mistake.

  145. Jon Keiser
    07 Oct 08 3:17 AM

Rob was ok, the new guy is ok too. But I agree that once you get a trend going, stick with it.
Joe weatherman was good in the mix, too.

I have watched Channel 4, “The Today Show”, for many many many years. Rob Morrison was my favorite and I am extremely upset that he is no longer part of this station. I will no longer be watching!!

I’m glad I’m not the only one wondering what’s going on. I had been a faithful viewer of Channel 4 and loved starting my day with Rob, Darlene, Otis and Chris. It was like sitting around the kitchen table with your family. I miss Rob and poor Michael just makes me feel unsettled like he’s not comfortable in his own skin or something. Sadly I have switched to watching Channel 2/CBS news. I too think NBC made a huge mistake letting Rob go but I am confident he will find something bigger and better. He’s too good at what he does.

I used to watch Rob in the morning on WVIT 30 in CT quite a few years ago. Then I moved to the NY area, and saw him on the news here! Now he’s gone again? He’s very talented, it just doesn’t make sense to let him go. I can only hope if I move again i’ll find him on the news.

When I googled it said Rob had taken a job as a lead anchor in San Diego for a FOX 5 affiliate. Good luck Rob. We miss you!!

I can’t believe it’s been since June that Rob is gone. I’ve been wondering about him ever since. I liked the chemistry of that group. But then the sports broadcast disappeared and I’ve switched to Fox news. Too bad because I’ve watched Today for many years, back to the days of Jane Hansen, my favorite. Glad to see that Rob is doing well.

Rob is gone, Joe ( life threatening) Moreno is gone, so when Darlene is gone I will return to viewing NBC

Loved the chemistry like others have mentioned.
Glad Rob landed in hopefully a good place.
NBC is crazy. They broke up a winning team and the ratings will show.
I’m curios about Otis, Chris and Darlene. There’s like morning pals and now it’s not the same. Mike Gargiulo is okay, but he’s not the same. Something is going on and it ain’t over.
Good luck Darlene, Chris and Otis.
